Colonoscopy

An endoscopy of the colon (colonoscopy) is a procedure that allows the doctor to examine the colon. Biopsies and removal of polyps at the time of endoscopy may occur if required and photos are taken so the doctor can review the findings.

Colonoscopy is used to diagnose the cause of signs or symptoms such as: diarrhoea, constipation, lower abdominal pain, blood in the stool, rectal bleeding, anaemia.

A consultation is required with the doctor prior to colonoscopy investigation and if repeat procedures are required, the patient will be recalled for the endoscopy as per the doctor instructions.
